Used these existing wood cladded structural columns to expand our basement seating and create a behind couch bar for an awesome view of the big games!
Check out the quick and easy steps in the link below for this 1 day project!
Supplies:
• Wood stain - 1 Can
• Planed 1x6 lumber planks (measure for lengths)
• Heavy duty shelf brackets (https://amzn.to/46AfjFA)
• Wood Putty Filler (https://amzn.to/46AfjFA)
• Drill and bit set required, laser for leveling also helps!
Directions:
Measure the span of the columns, Home Depot will cut to length right in the store for free! (Up to 3 cuts). We used 3 total pieces of lumber, so I needed to buy (2) 10'-0" length pieces.
Stain the wood pieces after they are cut.
Measure the depth of the columns, especially if you want either side of the bar to flush out with the column (I made ours wider than the columns to allow for a larger shelf section).
Install the heavy duty brackets on both columns, make sure to check the height before drilling, so the bar is level.
Drill the top of the bar into the brackets, then add a backer piece to create a wall to prevent spills onto the couch, and a front piece. I offset the back piece and front piece due to the wall piece rising above the top of the bar.
